Ruffle Butt Summer Romper for Natalie

I can't even tell you how excited I am by my newest creation! It's about 90% finished and I can not wait to see it on my little Natalie! I got the pattern online from tiedyedivapatterns.com .... Well actually, I got it from her etsy shop, but it's available there! It is just gorgeous!! I can't figure out how to upload my pictures from my iPad, so I'll have to do them tomorrow when I show you the finished product. IT WAS SO EASY! And I am thrilled that I went outside my normal realm of fabrics this time! Ok.... I'm already loving sewing again!

Here it is!! I am warning you though, you are gonna love this outfit so much you are gonna wanna make another baby just so you can make this gorgeous romper!! (maybe I am pushing it a little, but really!! )

so, thats the picture that made me need to buy this pattern asap! I have a picture of my Natalie in hers, but cant seem to access it now!

Here is a walk thru of the process!

Select Fabrics... Ive been trying to stay away from what I would usually choose (pinks, very girly)... and so I ended up with this very feminine but different fabric! I cut all my pattern pieces...

and Started my heming....

Ironing was VITAL for this step- and my mom has an old fashioned iron that I constantly burn my hands with! After you do the leg casings and back casing, you need to make the ruffles.... In order to do this without a serger (my next christmas request!!) You need to make hems on both sides of long stips or fabric... more ironing!
oh ya! Thats just part of our fabric stash behind the ironing board.... here's a bigger look! lol... I am absolutely addicted to buying fabric... luckily, I have a very understanding husband ;)
so leg ans back elastic casings are done... and so are the ruffle strips.. The next step is to gather the ruffles and sew them on. Gathering is easy in theory... as long as your thread doesn't break... :)

You want to work from the bottom up- it makes sewing soooo much easier! I did the same thing for all three ruffle strips... and then removed the gathering threads.... It is way easier to gather in a different color thread then you sew with, but I'm not going to lie... I am lazy, and hate rethreading... so this step took me way longer than it should have!
Next, add the elastic into the casings! :) super easy and really makes this thing feel way more adorable! This is the rear piece.... Then, we sew the front to the back.
Its important to maintain seam allowance... I missed some here and had to re sew. Because the front is lined, all the edges are covered and the finished product looks great!
I highly suggest this pattern! Its easy to follow and just adorable!
